Howard Knight

Howard Knight is Managing Director of Patersons Asset Management.  He has 24 years experience in the banking and finance industry as an investment banker and asset manager in Australia, London, Hong Kong and Singapore. He was previously Head of Lehman Brothers Investment Management Division Asia/Pacific, and prior to that Head of Alternative and Quantitative Investments for UBS Global Asset Management, Singapore.

Howard has extensive knowledge and experience in both traditional and non-traditional asset management products.  He has particular experience in the use of structured and alternative investment products including real estate investment trusts, private equity, commodities, hedge funds, portable alpha and currency overlay strategies.  He has expertise in risk management and an in-depth understanding of the risks associated with derivative instruments.

Howard holds a Bachelor of Economics, a Post Graduate Diploma in Finance, is a Senior Associate of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA), and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors course.

Howard brings to the Fund considerable experience in risk management and portfolio optimisation.

Murray McGill

Murray McGill is the Fund Manager of the 80:20 Equity funds.  He joined Patersons in 1988 and is currently the third largest shareholder of the firm. Murray has 22 years experience in the finance industry.  He has a Bachelor of Commerce, a Postgraduate diploma of Applied Finance and Investment, is a fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA) and a Director of the Australian Security & Derivatives Industry Association (SDIA).

Murray has been an active investment manager of managed discretionary investment portfolios for the past 10 years, consistently outperforming benchmark indices and is particularly skilled at formulating and implementing successful investment strategy during volatile markets.

Jason Chesters

Jason Chesters is Head of Equities for Patersons Asset Management and manages the Patersons Australian Resources Opportunities Fund. He has worked in the finance industry for over 16 years in the fields of funds management, equities research and investment strategy covering a diverse range of asset classes and sectors.

He holds qualifications in Economics, Investments and Finance, is a CFA Charterholder and is a Senior Associate of Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA).

Prior to joining Patersons Asset Management, Jason worked as Chief Investment Officer for St George Capital Pty Ltd and Tri-Linear Investment Management Pty Ltd for 6 years. Prior to that he worked as Senior Fund Manager for BoE Securities for 4 years. Other roles included research analyst and portfolio manager.

Jason joined Patersons in April 2009 and his role is focused on equities funds management, investment strategy and research. 

Patrick Holywell

Patrick Holywell is an Investment Analyst for Patersons Asset Management.

Patrick has 6 years experience in finance and accounting. Prior to joining Patersons he worked at LionOre Australia (now Norilsk Nickel), one of the world’s largest nickel miners, as a corporate and exploration accountant. Prior to LionOre Patrick worked as a senior audit analyst with Deloitte.

Patrick has developed a strong level of experience in the resources and finance industries. He has significant experience in the development and ongoing operation of managed investment schemes, including regulatory and compliance requirements.

Patrick holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Western Australia and a Post Graduate Diploma in Chartered Accounting from the University of New South Wales.

Ben Rowe

Ben Rowe is an Investment Analyst for Patersons Asset Management.

Ben has 4 years experience in finance and accounting.  He previously worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) as a Senior Consultant in the Transaction Services team primarily responsible for valuation and financial modelling across a wide variety of clients and industry sectors.

Prior to PWC, Ben was a Corporate Actions Officer with Asgard Wealth Solutions where he gained significant experience in portfolio management, investment strategy and regulatory compliance.  He has also worked in the engineering services sector.

Ben holds a Bachelor of Science (Business Administration) from Oregon State University in the United States with a minor in Economics. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma of Applied Finance from Kaplan (formerly FINSIA) and is currently enrolled in the CFA program.
